The Imperial War Museum commissioned us to recreate the complicated front section of the drop tank for its Meteor bomber. We made the tank in quarters, putting the initial shape in with the power hammer and then smoothing with the wheeling machine. We built a jig to check the accuracy of each section before the whole assembly was butt welded (TIG) together.

Drop tanks were designed to be filled with fuel to give the Meteor additional range and took the place of bombs on the wings.
